Bridal gown shopping is exciting and fun, but can become overwhelming also.  Our goal at Bliss is to make every bride as comfortable as possible and help her have the best shopping experience! So – we came up with a few tips to help you choose your dream wedding gown!

Start Early

Brides are often surprised to hear our suggested timeline for gown shopping. So it’s best to understand the process and start early.  Depending on designer, gowns take anywhere from 4-8 months to ship.  In addition, we ask for 2-3 months for alterations.  That’s why we recommend buying your gown 9-12 months in advance.  If you think you may want to have a few appointments before you decide, you can even start earlier than that.

But wait! I don’t have that long! – No problem! Between rush shipping and off the rack options, we can help you no matter what!

Choose Guests Wisely

We get it… you want to bring your entire bridal party plus both moms, your Aunt and her friend. But nothing sours an appointment more than a rude or overly opinionated guest.  We highly suggest bringing only a couple guests who are your closest family or friends (think Mom, sister and best friend only). If you dream of having an appointment where they all oooo and ahhh, bring them back for a fitting appointment once your dress arrives!

Focus on Fit, Not Size

Bridal sizing is NOT equal to your street size. Generally you have to go up 2-3 sizes depending on designer. So you were a dress size 14? You’re probably an 18 bridal. Don’t be alarmed when we pull larger sizes or when certain sizes are a little snug. These are just samples and your gown will be perfect on you.

Instead of focusing on size, focus on the fit. Are you a princess? Prefer something fitted? Or slighly flowy? We have it all.

Be Open Minded

Having an idea of what you like and don’t like is helpful to our team. However – being set on only one style can limit your options. Have an open mind and trust our consultants to make you feel beautiful! Try on a dress you would never expect to like. You may love it! And if you hate it?  Just take it off and move on!

Be Ready To Say Yes!

Many brides are surprised when they find the dress at their first appointment. For whatever reason, they sometimes feel like they should look at more dresses. Girls! – When you know, you know! Whether you need a special person with you, or you need to figure out financials, be ready to say yes just in case you find the gown!
